Jennifer Militzer-Kopperl

Jennifer Militzer-Kopperl is a private remedial specialist, the author of The Roadmap to Literacy Books, and the creator of Renewal of Literacy.

Jennifer's education includes Waldorf teacher training in 2005 (Rudolf Steiner College/Fair Oaks, California) and a BA from Grand Valley State University (1994). 

Over the last 25 years, Jennifer has taught hundreds of students to read and trained and mentored teachers from Waldorf, mainstream, and homeschool classrooms. Her teaching background includes both Waldorf and mainstream education:  

  • Teaching and mentoring in Lindamood Bell Learning Processes  reading clinics (1999-2001).
  • Resource Specialist Pat Anderson Education Center (formerly Sacramento Children's Home) (2001-2005)--teaching classes, small groups, and individual students (primary, middle school, high school). Preparing IEPs (assessing, creating learning goals). 
  • Remedial Specialist (Private) for Waldorf Schools (2005-2016): Camellia Waldorf School, Sacramento Waldorf School, Davis Waldorf School. 
  • Adult Education for Waldorf teachers (2007-present), including "How English Works," the workshop that inspired Jennifer to write The Roadmap to Literacy.

Jennifer partnered with Janet Langley, a Waldorf teacher with no background in teaching reading, to write The Roadmap to Literacy (2018), a book which combines Jennifer’s expertise in literacy with Janet’s experience as a Waldorf class teacher. This collaboration was a mistake: Janet insisted on publishing the book before it was done and then absconded with Jennifer's life work. 

Jennifer wrote the sequel Continuing the Journey to Literacy: A Guide to Teaching Language Arts in Waldorf Schools Grades 4 through 8 (2020). Then she wrote The Roadmap to Literacy: Renewal of Literacy® Edition (2022). It completes the book Jennifer started with Janet Langley and  addresses the number one thing teachers are doing wrong. 

Jennifer is currently working on a fix for the #1 thing the Waldorf movement has gotten wrong over the last 100 years.  

Jennifer is the creator of Renewal of Literacy®. It is both a support website for The Roadmap to Literacy Books and the name of the online school for the books. It shows how to achieve a renewal of education—through a renewal of literacy.
